You are here: Home | About the Fringe
The Swansea Fringe is a joint venture between Tunetown and the Swansea Arts Forum Trust; its principal sponsors are National Lottery funds channelled via the Millennium Commission, and the City and County of Swansea Council. Swansea Fringe Ltd. is a not for profit company, limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales (no. 5557933).
Following a small scale 'Taste of the Fringe' pilot event in October 2004, the Festival has been resurrected by Tunetown with support from the Swansea Arts Forum Trust (see our History pages) and with the full backing of the City and County of Swansea. We aim to make the Fringe an annual fixture in the Festivals calendar, growing year on year from the foundations we lay in 2005.

Tunetown is a not-for-profit social enterprise formed in 1998 to create opportunities in music and related activities in our local area. To that end Tunetown undertakes a range of education and events activities to assist in the provision of an infrastructure for the development of music in Swansea and the surrounding area. We are partners in a variety of projects aimed at raising the profile of the Swansea region, and contributing to the wider perspective, the perception of Wales as a major contributor to European cultural activity and excellence and the Fringe is a major aspect of this strategy.
Swansea Arts Forum Trust is a strategic forum for Cultural development in the City and County of Swansea. It exists to support and develop the arts and encourage greater collaboration between various agencies and individuals involved in the consumption or production of the arts in Swansea. A principal function is to act as a hothouse for art projects and provide opportunities for practitioners to gain work within the cultural industries. The Trust is funded by The Arts Council of Wales, the City and County of Swansea, Swansea Development Fund and Compact.
Of course the Fringe wouldn't be the Fringe without something to be alternative to; the Swansea Festival will be running through October. You can visit their website by clicking here.
With our partners the Swansea Arts Forum Trust, the City and County of Swansea and Arts About Swansea, we aim to contribute toward Swansea's cultural regeneration and development as a 'City of Festivals'. An already rich cultural offering has been developed through collaborative working and continues to grow through a strong public-voluntary sector partnership, working toward the realisation of our shared cultural ambitions for this Ugly Lovely Town.
