1st October 2005:

    The Treasure of the Puta Madre - Swansea's very own Christopher Hood, author of 'Banana Cat' returns from his exile in Barcelona, with this stupendous radio play for the stage.

  • 12.00 pm
    Spectrum Street Theatre - A visual Journey, a vibrant festival of colour and comedy. Ancient Greeks, Poets, Secret Agents, Painters and Paint.
    Venue: Black Box, Castle Square
  • 7.30 pm
    Rory Motion - In 2004, Rory Motion , poet, comic, singer/songwriter and tree impressionist, set about learning a language called Chi Nyanja and in November of that year travelled to Africa to do a tour of prestigious mango trees of N.W. Mozambique.

  • 7.30 pm
    David Hughes - Acoustic singer-songwriter-guitarist, one of Q magazines albums of the year in 1997. He has a rich folk pedigree and has toured as the support act for Fairport Convention, Bert Jansch and Pentangle. He has performed with Helen Watson and was a founder member of St Agnes Fountain. His sharp, sardonic vocal delivery and rhythmically-percussive fingerstyle guitar have earned him regular slots on BBC Radio Four's Loose Ends with Ned Sherrin.

  • 6.00 pm
    Jonathan Powell   - Swansea based painter, who is a recent graduate of the Institute and current curator/director of The Swansea Guild of Artists. Powell's work keeps getting larger and larger as his confidence grows. The visual impact on the viewer is intense, and the vivid use of colour overwhelms the senses. His one man show at Exposure earlier this year won him much acclaim, this show comes highly recommended and opens on the 1st.

  • Dead Horse Group - The Dead Horse Group's cutting Edge Work ranges from large scale paintings to installation through to photography and ceramics.  The exhibition opens on Saturday 1st and runs throughout the Fringe. The 6th sees an unpredictable evening drenched in music, art and coffee featuring wonderful musicians like The Felix Subway along with an array of poets and performers.

    ExposureExposure gallery is a dynamic and contemporary artist run venue for visual arts.We provide a platform and vital stepping stone for artists allowing them the opportunity and experience of showcasing their work.  The exhibition opens on the 1st and runs throughout the Fringe and beyond.

  • 9.00 pm
    Leaving the World - Leaving the World’ brings together two artists who work in print. Sian Lile who uses etching and installation and Paul Battenbough who works primarily with relief processes. Neither makes edition prints, they prefer to produce unique, one-off pieces. Together they bring a contrasting and refreshing approach to the modern day print, dispelling the opinion that somehow prints are inferior to other methods of expression. The exhibition opens on the 1st and runs throughout the Fringe.

    Paul Emmanuel - With Dr. Richard Maggs presents psycho, a live video work using simultaneous video projection, paint and a psychiatrist.

2nd October 2005:

 

  • 2.30 pm
    Tony Webb - The first of the Storytellers Series at Tee Total, above Waterstones bookshop, sees Swansea singer-songwriter Tony Webb playing a range of his self-penned songs, with interludes to talk about his music.

  • 7.30 pm
    Count Arthur Strong - An Absolute Must See Event. The Count is the creation of Steve Delaney and has been for a number of years one of the most admired acts featured at the Edinburgh Fringe.
    Venue: Dylan Thomas Centre
  • 8.00 pm
    Antic Theatre Company presents St Abdul's Picturedrome - Fresh from their success in last year's festival, Antic Coporation premiere a new play by Michael Waters commissioned especially by Swansea Fringe. The Company bring their distinctive performance style combining exciting visual theatre and video projection to create a world where everybody can be a in the movies, and the temptation of the voyeuer is too compelling to ignore.

    G&E - Jazz at Swansea's newest addition to the Jazz circuit; Cafe Cesso.  A jazz duo with great vocals and guitar.

    Maria Owen - Recently cast in a forthcoming film about Dylan Thomas, Maria has to date been best known as a singer-songwriter.  She will be performing and talking about a selection of her material as part of the Fringe 'Storytellers' series.
    Venue: Tee Total Cafe, above Waterstones Bookshop, Oxford Street

    Stiliana - Simple and Stylish’ are the two words that describe Stiliana Alexieva’s art. Her contemporary paintings with unique special colour and 3D texture effects are displayed in modern flats, offices and private collections. The exhibition opens on the 1st and runs throughout the Fringe.

    Bruce Risdon - figure based studies, with bold fluid oil strokes on canvas, range from classic nudes to post modern pastiches.  Whilst maintaining the immediate expressionistic style we have come to value from Bruce's past successful exhibitions.  The exhibition opens on the 1st and runs throughout the Fringe at one of the more unusual locations for a visual art exhibition - a pub!

    Ardal O'Hanlon - One of the festival's headline events, the Fringe is proud to present the comedy giant that is Ardal O'Hanlan.

    Phil Jacobs - Exciting emerging artist, bold fluid impressionistic canvases that capture the essence of Gower Penninsula.   The exhibition opens on the 3rd and runs throughout the Fringe.  Venue: The Dolphin Hotel, Gloucester Room.

    Andy Morse - A powerful brand of acoustic, folk-edged music; part of the Fringe 'Storytellers' series at Tee Total above Watestones.

    Independent Filmmaking in the UK - An opportunity to see excerpts from the soon to be released feature fim 'January 2nd'. Follwed by a discussion with both the Producer and Director about Independent Filmaking and a Question and Answer session.

  • 9.00 pm
    Cal Newman - Country-blues, rag time and slide guitar from the Cardiff Blues-man.

    Aeronaut - With their tremendous take on American, Rock and Psychedelia, this is one of Swansea's finest musical acts for some time. Support from The Receivers, the new band that has formed from the ashes of the acclaimed folktastic Rag Foundation.

  • 9.00 pm
    The Amazing Mr Smith - A whacky comic who proved a huge hit in the Taste of the Fringe event in 2004; he returns due to popular demand!
    Venue: The Brunswick Pub
  • 7.30 pm
    Lloyd Robson - Performance poet Lloyd Robson is rapidly building a reputation as one of the most potent & dynamic of welsh writers.  See him here with support from Swansea actor and poet Peter Read.
    Venue: Coffee Cesso, Bryn Y Mor Road
  • 2.30 pm
    Aggi Thomas - This promising young swansea singer-songwriter has a big, warm, soulful voice (think Joni Mitchell) and heaps of charisma. We expect to see great things from this lady in the future, go see her before fame steals her away.

  • 9.00 pm
    Lear - A mixture of full ahead, modern rock songs and memorable, melodic tunes. Support from the energetic Garage Rock stylings of Elysian.

    Independent Filmaking worldwide - An opportunity to see a soon to be released feature film by MCT Productions. Followed by a discussion with the Producer about Independent Filmaking and a Question and Answer session.
    Venue: The Dylan Thomas Centre f the sound of Duke Special.
  • 7.00 pm
    Private Peaceful - Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn.
    Venue: The Taliesin Theatre
  • 7.00 pm

    The James Taylor Quartet - Distorted Hammond freak-outs from the band for whom the term "acid jazz" was coined.

  • Ian James - For those wanting a more laid back alternative to the JTQ gig, you can't go wrong with the lilting tones of Ian James; he will be performing with his full band on Saturday 8th at the Uplands Tavern but you can catch him in an 'unplugged' solo set in the more intimate surroundings of the Brunswick Pub.

    Private Peaceful - Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn.  Catch the second performance in this matinee slot.

    Stonewall Confederacy - Now renamed Harpers Ferry. Heavy Metal played in the bluegrass styley, countryfied rock 'classics' by the likes of Bad Company, Judas Priest, Aerosmith and Motorhead.

    Wednesday PlayOff - The next generation of Dylan Thomases have been showcasing their talents in an X Factor-style competition in Swansea. Budding playwrights are being given the chance to have their work performed.

    Boudoir - From stripper to table dancer, pole dancer to lap dancer, we're back to Burlesque.  Boudoir invites you to experience the dancing female form.

    Volcano Theatre Company presents 'Hitting Funny' - Hitting Funny is a provocatively filthy one-man show about a stand-up comic on the ropes.  Strictly over 18s.

    Comfortism - Comfortism is…murder by chocolate roll, feeding your friends to the fish, a Chinese Elvis, and having violent sex on top of a TV showing Ready Steady Cook. Comfortism is also a night of funny film, amusing music, pithy poetry and titillating theatre. "A twisted cabaret, a voluptuous vaudeville."

    Ian James Experience - The seminal human Juke Box that is Ian James leads his Merry band of Legends down another Cajun fuelled avenue of southern vibes.

  • 9.30 pm
    The Lost Boys - It's been 21 years since the Lost Boys last played in Swansea. A band that had a considerable cult following in the heady post punk days of new wave.

9th October 2005:

  • 2.30 pm
    Women in Jazz - Swansea's Women in Jazz perform a range of their material and talk about their work with some history of Jazz in Swansea as part of the Fringe Storytellers series.

  • 9.00 pm
    String Whistle - Acoustic music; finish the Fringe seeing a laid back set in the comfy surroundings of the Brunswick.
